Last week our little baby girl turned one year old. Isn’t it crazy how time flies when you’re living your best life? Our daughter is such a joy and we’ve loved every minute of life with her. We celebrated her first birthday with a themed party of her favorite children’s books and author, Dr. Seuss. Originally I was going to do a small party, but more and more friends from out of town wanted to come so we opted to go big! Her Dr Seuss Birthday Party ended up being SO cute… and easy to throw together with these Dr Seuss party ideas. By combining Dr Seuss party supplies and pre-made party decorations with personal touches and a fun party food menu, we had the best time celebrating our baby! Check out all the Dr Seuss first birthday ideas below!

Dr Seuss First Birthday
When it comes to inspiration, there are no shortages of Dr Seuss party ideas. Just browse through any one of his many books and you’ll find all sorts of beautiful and colorful inspirations to include in your party decorations. We bought many of these Dr Seuss birthday supplies but also DIYed a few projects too. Here are a few Dr Seuss first birthday party theme ideas that you can easily incorporate into your celebrations.
Mix-n-Match Dr Seuss decorations: The traditional color palette for Dr Seuss party decorations are primarily red, blue and white, especially with his popular “Cat in the Hat” illustrations. I wanted to add touches of pink and mint green into the mix and was able to do so by adding lanterns, tissue paper pom poms and displaying various books with the color scheme.
Using her monthly photos and the muted pages of “Oh, the Places You’ll Go”, we also DIYed a pennant banner to display. It was so cute and really set the color palette of the party.
Also, think about incorporating desired colors alongside typical Dr Seuss balloons as a way of customizing your party colors.
Dr Seuss Party Ideas
Dr Seuss Cake: There are so many great Dr Seuss birthday cake and cupcake ideas online! Or, think about using simple cupcakes in your desired colors and using Dr Seuss cake toppers with your favorite characters.
Dr Seuss Birthday Book: I think this is one of my favorite keepsakes of all time. Buy a copy of Dr Seuss’ Happy Birthday to You and, upon their arrival, have every guest sign a special message to the birthday baby. My baby girl’s Dr Seuss birthday book is filled with so many beautiful messages and I can’t wait until she is older to read them to her.
Dr Seuss Party Favors: So about once a year, many retailers have loads of great items to DIY adorable Dr Seuss treat bags for the kids and, for my baby’s party, I scored big time at Target’s $1 section. I made Cindy Lou and Grinch goodie bags that included homemade Seuss coloring books and crayons.

Dr Seuss Food Ideas
Our party was in the afternoon, right after my baby’s first nap, so lunch was served. And what better menu at a Dr Seuss birthday party than one of green eggs and ham?! A delicious HoneyBaked ham with various loaves of bread and sandwich fixings was the perfect entree, while green deviled eggs addded a festive touch and roasted vegetable pasta salad, fruit skewers and salad filled guests up.
You can go all out with the Dr Seuss food ideas!
Dr Seuss First Birthday
My baby girl’s Dr Seuiss first birthday party was a Seussical Success! After all the fun and feasting, she fell asleep in my lap as a happy new toddler.
I’m so excited for the adventure in parenting that are to come, but for now, I’m going to enjoy the memories of the best Dr Seuss party I’ll ever throw!

February 17, 2011 at 2:10 amWhat a amazing party! I’ve been thinking about having a cat in the hat party for my boys birthday at the end of the month. You’ve given me some great ideas! Now, if I can convince them not to have a hot wheels one. Oh well, maybe next year Mommy can have a cat in the hat party.

August 19, 2011 at 3:18 amI just subscribed to your blog. I found it through your guest post on Spanglish Baby. I can relate to you on many levels as a wife and new mother. In perusing your blog entries, I found this entry interesting. You see, my son is nearing the 1 yr mark in November and I was thinking of not celebrating it all since we don’t live near any family. Instead, we were going to celebrate as a small family at an all-inclusive resort somewhere. Stick a 1yr calendar in pineapple slice and call it a day. But, looking at these birthday pics and you realizing just how many people (other than family) love your little girl makes me think twice…
