September and October are the best months in Las Vegas. They’ve always been my favorite for a number of reasons. First, the weather is superb! Still hot, but much more tolerable than the previous summer months, exploring outdoors becomes so much more enjoyable. Las Vegas for kids is definitely ready for adventure once the heat subsides! And turns out, Las Vegas families don’t have to travel far to enjoy the honored tradition of apple picking and pumpkin picking! The Gilcrease Orchard is the best place for apple picking in Las Vegas and is only a short drive out of town, but feels like a different world…
Gilcrease Orchard: Tips for Apple Picking in Las Vegas
Gilcrease Orchard Las Vegas
Plan your trip to the farm by signing up for Gilcrease Orchard’s weekly newsletter. Those emails will tell you what vegetables and fruits are open for picking and digging. This time we went for apple picking, but this farm is also our favorite pumpkin patch in Las Vegas too. You can also just check their website to see what is available for picking that week, the price per pound and events calendar. The orchard is open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays, but will also have extended hours in October.
From the center of town, driving to Gilcrease Orchard to easy along all paved roads. Park is ample and plentiful. Once you arrive, the large barn greets you and takes you back in time. It looks retro as I’m sure it’s endured plenty of Las Vegas summers. The views from Gilcrease Orchard in Las Vegas are stunning, with the mountain peaks just beyond the rows and rows of fruit trees and vegetable patches. Our afternoon apple picking in Las Vegas was exactly the kids’ activity we all needed after the intense summer heat. The kids caught on super quick, and really loved the apple picking adventure!
Kids Activities in Las Vegas
I love Gilcrease Orchard during this time of year because, although it is very much a working farm, they make an effort to set up fun activities for the kids throughout. Like fun photo backdrops, corn mazes and lots of scarecrows! But the most fun these kids had were picking fresh fruit and vegetable straight from the vines and trees.
After picking enough apples for a homemade apple pie, we were off to pick our first pumpkin of the season. That’s right, Gilcrease Orchard also is one of our favorite pumpkin patches in Las Vegas too! More on that below…
Before packing up our bounty and heading home for the kids to nap, we HAD to enjoy Gilcrease Orchard’s famous, fresh apple cider and homemade donuts while taking stalk of our hand-picked goodness. It’s a delicious way to end a happy day out in nature, away from the city, and I really recommend both the cider and doughnuts! Doesn’t get much better than that.
Best Pumpkin Patch in Las Vegas
Pumpkin Patch Las Vegas
I like this resource page of all the festival type pumpkin patch in Las Vegas, but when it comes to learning how pumpkins grow and picking your very own squash out of the ground, Gilcrease Orchard is the way to go. It is by far our most favorite pumpkin patch in Las Vegas!
And during the Fall, the farm has so many great events and family-friendly activities for Las Vegas families.
