Holiday Traditions: Breakfast, Santa & Flagstaff, Arizona

The weekend after Thanksgiving, we took to the open road towards Flagstaff, Arizona. Although only 250 miles from Vegas, we had never been to this mountainous town. Road trips usually mean going west, towards familiar California. As we were invited to experience the North Pole (Vegas blog readers, check it out!), we learned that Flagstaff might just be our newest favorite local getaway. Friendly and beautiful makes for the perfect combination in my book – and the ambiance is perfect to usher in the holiday season.

The morning after Santa’s workshop, we were treated to a breakfast buffet at the hotel we were staying and where the NPX Trolley departs from (Little America). Santa was also there, and Alina got to spend plenty of time with him. She told him all about her love of animals and how she really wants a toy vet clinic, like the one in our local museum. A tall order for my little girl, Santa quickly turned the conversation into a life lesson. Santa told my girl that only those with the kindest of hearts become veterinarians and that she would need to study hard to make a difference in the world. After which complimenting Daddy D on his dashing good looks. Man, that Santa won me over big time. There will never be a better Santa then the one we met in Flagstaff.

After breakfast, we took a walk around the grounds of the hotel. I had no idea Flagstaff was so beautiful. When I thought of Arizona, I thought of desert – like Vegas. But as Vegas blog readers know, our town has varying landscapes too. Daddy D recently had knee surgery, so we couldn’t walk very far, but not long into our walk we came upon some cowboys offering sleigh rides. The four of us bumbled underneath the blanket and took on a sleigh ride into the forests of Flagstaff. It was beautiful.

This weekend was one that I needed in ways that I never knew… it was beautiful and serene. Magical and filled with time to bond with my beautiful kids. It filled my soul with strength for the coming week.

Have you been to Flagstaff? What should we look into next time we visit?
