I love that our Latino heritage has become an occasion to learn and celebrate here in the United States. What a testament to our experiences as bicultural, first-generation Latinos! In an effort to pass down these Hispanic traditions to our children, I’ve curated the best collection of free Day of the Dead printables with Dia de los Muertos printables and activities that are perfect for young kids to explore this holiday.
I’ve always believed that art is a parenting tool, offering opportunities to explore complex (or difficult) topics, such as death. While Dia de los Muertos puts death and dying at the forefront of conversation – which can be totally tough with kids – the holiday is truly a celebration of life! A slight shift in focus can alter a young perspective in powerful ways and using a Day of the Dead printable is wonderful to facilitate a conversation with young kids. Quite frankly, I think most of our traditional Halloween stuff is way scarier than images of Day of the Dead.

Our Day of the Dead Printable
We love and use so many different Day of the Dead printables, but we really enjoy ours too. Our printable for Day of the Dead skulls allows kids to use their creativity in design a beautiful calavera with lots of space for their own interpretation. I wanted to take an otherwise scary image and transform it into a Day of the Dead Skull Printable that is open for a child’s creative imagination through the use of color and design.
A highly decorated Dia de los Muertos skull printable celebrates the iconic imagery of the human form once we’ve passed by using bright colors and floral decor. They are an important symbol of the celebrations for Mexican Day of the Dead and parents should be good about their inclusion in your narrative. Below you’ll find a few sugar skull print outs to explore, but here is our Day of the Dead skulls printables for your use!
