This week, Alina and I had quite the adventure – one that we will remember for many years to come. Doming her new Princess Elena gown, we headed down to the Disney Channel building in Burbank, California as invited press to watch the first episode of Elena of Avalor, Disney’s first project featuring a Latina princess.
We also got to interview Aimee Carrero, the voice of Princess Elena. Aimee is a stunning Latina, born to Puerto Rican and Domincan parents. She grew up in Miami and is a beautiful representation for our next generation of Disney loving Latinas. Be sure to watch our interview with her below!
Alina stole the show during the junket though, as everyone was so excited to see their project manifested in the heart of my little girl. Isn’t that what Disney is all about?! Craig Gerber (creator/executive producer) and Silvia Cardenas Olivas (story editor) were so sweet with my little girl, asking her opinion on the show and telling her how beautiful she looked as Princess Elena. Alina has wanted to see herself as a Disney princess for a long time, so this experience was truly a magical!
Elena of Avalor, Disney’s First Latina Princess
Elena of Avalor is an animated series that follows the story of Elena, a brave and adventurous teenager who saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen. Set in Avalor, an enchanted fairytale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore, Elena’s journey will lead her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders.
Watch our interview with Aimee Carrero about her bicultural identity, growing up Latina and what it means to her to be the voice of Elena of Avalor!
