Are Your Older Kids Safe In Their Boosters?
I only ask because it’s important, but do you pay attention to the quality of the boosters your preschooler is sitting in? As new moms, we pay so much attention to our baby’s car seat – the quality, the ratings, the comfort – and I hope that moms are also considering how important booster safety is for our growing toddlers and preschoolers.
As a Britax Ambassador for over two years, I am proud of the company’s standard on child safety – for children of all ages. Recently, the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ranked booster seats according to their safety performance and granting those with superior standards their “Best Bets”. Of the 41 models ranked, 27 were awarded best in class and all – I have to repeat this: ALL – of Britax’s Harness-2-Booster seats were among those 27 booster seats. The Pinnacle™ ClickTight, Frontier™ ClickTight and Pioneer™ combination Harness-2-Booster seats— along with 41 other new for 2014 seats from various other manufacturers – all were ranked. In 2013, IIHS rated Britax’s two new belt-positioning booster seats, Parkway™ SG and Parkway™ SGL with a “BEST BET.” IIHS evaluates how likely booster seats, from a variety of manufacturers, fit adult safety belts from a wide variety of vehicles. IIHS does this by measuring how a vehicle’s three-point lap and shoulder belt fits an average child-sized dummy seated in a booster.
See the full press release and the list of boosters that miss the mark on the IIHS website. Both of my kids currently sit in the Frontier ClickTight Harness-2-Booster seat; you can read my full review of that product if you’d like, too. Here’s another good resource article from CNN’s HLN with an list of the best bet car seats, good bet, check fit and NOT recommended lists. Please (please) review this list to make sure your precious big babies are not in any of those not recommended seats.
Britax Booster Giveaway
The official statement from Britax come from Jon Chamberlain, president of the company: “At Britax, we believe it’s our responsibility to ensure children are always protected, no matter where life takes them. We’re proud to work closely with industry experts to push the boundaries of smart design and new technology. We constantly update our products and ensure Britax car seats can be properly installed and used correctly each and every time.” I’ve met Jon Chamberlain, toured the Britax facility right here in the states… and I believe him. I believe in these products and will keep my children in them for as long as they can.
I’m super excited about this opportunity! Here is how you can enter the Britax “Best Bet” giveaway: Readers have a chance to win one of the Britax IIHS “Best Bet” carseats: Britax Frontier 90, Britax Pinnacle 90, or Britax Pioneer 70. December 4, 2014 at 10:35 amBritax has always been my go-to car seat, I have read several reviews and Britax outbeats the majority. I think that the booster with the 5-point harness gives our child an extra form of security.

December 4, 2014 at 1:03 pmMom’s are the best at making their little ones feel safe and secure! I secretly love that my 5 year old still comes in our room at night if he’s had a bad dream just for me to give him a hug and reassure him that it’s ok! When my 3 year old gets scared she wants me to hold her, those are the best snuggles!!

December 4, 2014 at 2:45 pmThanks for the post Vanessa! It definitely made me reconsider my thoughts on a booster. Now that my daughter is ready for one and I know its a transition to not being in a carseat, I didn’t think brand or type mattered (even though I too have used Britax all along). Here’s to hopefully a new booster! I love my children and aside from being a helicopter parent 😉 I make them feel safe and secure by letting them know in different ways that they are loved!

December 5, 2014 at 12:41 amThanks for the post! It definitely made me reconsider my thoughts about booster seats. I saw them as simply an elevated piece of cushion that allows for the soon transition to no car seat. Here’s to hopefully a new seat! I love my kids more than anything and aside from kid proofing the house, I reassure them that I will always be there for them so that they feel safe and secure!
