Whether you’re celebrating Lent or enjoying some French-inspired cuisine, creating simple meatless recipes is easy when you’re working with decadent ingredients. This simple no-meat sandwich recipe for Grilled Camembert and Apple Croque (that’s French for “crunch”, but refers to a type of sandwich) will have you wondering what the big deal is about meat anyway.
Simple No-Meat Sandwich Recipe
The Camembert cheese is rich in flavor and tones down the tart green apples, while the grilled French bread makes this sandwich extra fancy. It’s perfect for kids, dinner or any occasion! It’s especially perfect for Lent, in which meatless recipes are necessary every Friday.
Grilled Camembert and Apple Croque Recipe
This sandwich is super easy and quick to make. I’ve made it a few times for the kids and Daddy D since Lent started, and it’s always a big hit!
Ingredients
Sliced French Bread (my favorite is from Walmart’s bakery)
Green Apple, sliced thin
Camembert Cheese, thinly sliced (I often use Brie as well)
Arugula and Spinach mix, Walmart’s organic Marketside brand
EVOO (I use an oil mister)
Make This DELISH No-Meat Sandwich!
Arrange two slices of french bread and layer the cheese, apple slices and arugula mix on top. Set aside. Spray the inside of a medium-sized pan with your oil mister (or coat the bottom of the pan with a thin layer of EVOO). Over medium heat, grill your croque until the first side is golden brown, then flip. (If needed, spray the second side before flipping). Cook until the cheese is gooey and has started to melt. Serve immediately.
