Our friends at Clorox know how hard we work to keep our homes filled with happy memories! I’m excited to partner with them on the launch of a new scent and bathroom cleaners in the Clorox® Scentiva™ family – Clorox® Scentiva™ Pacific Breeze & Coconut™ – to show a few easy ways to love the space where family legacy is built.
Toys and shoes thrown all over the floor, chores constantly calling your name and barely a space to hide in which your kids can’t find you: HOME! If you’re anything like me, you love being home with the ones you love, creating memories and building family legacy, but your house often leaves something to be desired. That’s how I felt until the front door swung open to our tiny, midcentury home in Southern California after two weeks adventuring through Cuba and the unexpected happened: I LOVED MY HOUSE! And considering we have one bathroom for four people, that realization was a big deal.
Something about being away made me realize how fortunate we are. (Did you know that you can’t flush toilet paper down the drain in Cuba?) Since then, I’ve been thinking about easy and affordable practices in order to fall back in love with our bungalow…. Without spending a bunch of money or extra time.
When My Bathroom Is My Sanctuary…
Freshening up décor with new pillows or wall art and paint is great and all, but those changes aren’t always in the budget. The tips I’m offering today are all about tweaking chores and things you already do to help you fall back in the love with the space who’s foundation is the backdrop of your memories.
Here are 3 quick and easy ways to love your home right now…
Embrace mood lighting: As the sun sets on another frantic mom day, embrace the opportunity to create soothing mood lighting. Think about your lighting routine – which window shades you open (or don’t) in the morning, dimmable overhead lighting or the color cast of lamps. Since photography and the manipulation of light has always been a thing for me, I know how every crevice of my house looks and feels like under various lighting. My favorite spot to sit right now is by a kitchen window, during sunrise/ sunset, looking at my new Cuban art pieces. It makes me so happy!
Transform your bathroom: Bathrooms aren’t transformative just because you shower and get ready in them – sometimes it’s the only room in the house that I can have alone time. Sometimes my bathroom is my sanctuary! It’s also a space in my house that is taken for granted and I recently decided to transform it into a dream paradise without leaving home.
Our bathroom is small, so to turn it into a paradise I really have to use all my senses. I was excited to find out that Clorox is now bringing a sensory cleaning experience into the bathroom with a new Clorox® Scentiva™ scent: Pacific Breeze & Coconut™. Clorox® Scentiva™ Pacific Breeze & Coconut™ brings the scent of Pacific paradise into our homes with a blend of coconut, pineapple, peach and apple with a rich mixture of citrus, waterlily and peony that leaves a refreshing Pacific escape. The all-new Pacific Breeze & Coconut™ Bathroom Foam Cleaner, Toilet Cleaning Gel, and Bathroom Disinfecting Foamer Spray are products that are effective, elevate our everyday chores and help transform the space a bit.
The bathroom’s new scent, combined with some hydrating lotions, a new waterproof speaker (a total splurge) and a vase of fresh flowers, and I’m totally in love with my small, quiet bathroom paradise.
Refresh your favorites: What are the best features of your home; what inside it brings you the most happiness? Rearrange that! Sometimes, to fall back in love with a space, it just needs some pampering. My favorite parts of our home are the walls (our art and family photos) and a bookcase filled with travel gems and favorite books.
As soon as we got settled into normal life, I started rearranging our wall galleries to accommodate new photos and finds. It’s amazing how happy that’s made me! Look through closets, print out new photos and spruce up your old favorites with some new charm for a quick and easy way to love your space again.
I worried that coming home from such an amazing experience in Cuba would be hard. Would I want to turn around and head right back out into the world? Well, a part of me did, but walking in the front door of my family’s home felt amazing too. I love where I live. And despite needing some serious updating, I love our old house too.
I spent our first days back cleaning like a crazy woman with Clorox Scentiva products and the house smelled amazing. I’m totally serious – I love this stuff. I rearranged my art walls and printed out new photos. I shut the door to my bathroom and took a deep breath, inhaling all the reasons why my California home is our happy oasis.
