With our kids heading back to their regular school routines, moms are looking for the first day of school traditions that are meaningful and easy. Today I’m partnering with Kinder Joy™, one of the most popular confectionary brands in the world, to share a few of my favorite back to school traditions!
#RealTalk: Moms love the thought of arranging elaborate back to school gift baskets filled with personalized school supplies that usher their children back into a routine with excitement. We adore the beautiful back to school signs that document every detail from the last year in perfect chalkboard font. But a busy mom’s reality is so different!
If you’re anything like me, savoring the last bits of summer with our babies is the top priority in the weeks leading up to the first day of school. Back to school season always seems to sneak up on me! All the necessary chores like stocking up on school uniforms/wardrobe, backpacks and lunch boxes are important, but we can still make time for a few special treats and traditions.
So if you feel a bit overwhelmed by all the adorable BTS stuff on Pinterest, please don’t fret. The truth is we don’t have to stage perfection to create meaningful moments that our kids remember as they grow.
Here are 4 first day of school traditions that take little time but offer maximum enjoyment!
First Day of School Traditions
For those busy moms who still want to cherish and enjoy their kids’ milestones without extra fuss, here are 5 back to school traditions that are thoughtful and child-centered.
The night before traditions: Make your kids their favorite dinner the night before their big day! Make sure to ask a bunch of questions about their hopes for the new school year or what they want to be when they grow up. Take time to remember all the great times they had last school year. You’ve got to eat any way making this tradition easy peasy!
Shoot simple school photos: Simple is the keyword for this first day of school tradition! For us, that means using the same chalkboard easel year after year. We use it for art projects all year long, but I love how it also marks my kids’ yearly growth. Plus it’s easy to photoshop the year or other sayings on the photo if I don’t have time to write on it before running out the door before school. If chalkboard easels aren’t your thing, look for free back to school sign printable online… like our bilingual one! (Click HERE to download.) Personalize it (or not), print and snap a quick picture as the kids rush out the door!
Back to school treats: Kinder Joy makes the perfect back to school treat tradition! Treats are normally reserved for special occasions in our house, so surprising them with their favorite Kinder Joy is a great way to celebrate their return to school! They feel special and we get some quality time together to chat about their day at school.
The delicious treat of Kinder Joy™ is made of two soft creamy layers – one milk-crème flavored and one cocoa flavored – but I think my kids love the toy the best! Kinder Joy has been around for 17 years and has sold billions in more than 100 countries. I love watching them play and enjoy their treat and can’t imagine a better first day of school tradition!
Backpack surprise: Pack their back to school backpack with cool stickers, special goodies or notes from mom that will make our kids feel loved and supported on their first day of school.
Back to School Celebrations!
No matter how you celebrate your kid’s first day back at school after a long summer at home, don’t feel overwhelmed! Simple, meaningful tokens and gestures are just as appreciated by our kids… if not more. After all, a happy mom sends happy kids to school.
