Planning Halloween party food ideas can be daunting. I totally get it! When hosting a kids’ party, I do my best to keep things easy… and fun! The trick is to skip the steps you can and add personal touches where it counts.
From frozen pizza, boxed cupcake mix and decorating kits, I was able to pull together a festive lunch without a ton of effort. Quite honestly, other than the cupcakes, I would have probably would have served a similar menu anyway. Adding fun, Halloween decorations made the party special.
Halloween Party Food Ideas
The kids LOVED their bite-sized bug nachos! They are simple to make, but as cute as can be. By using Tostitos Scoops, you can make a few individual bugs and then lay out the rest of the ingredients so that the kids can make their own. I first filled the scoops with a bit of pico de gallo, avocado and cheese. I then covered everything with a 1/2 teaspoon of refried black beans and two candy eyeballs.
Especially for kids who don’t like beans (like my friend’s little one), this might tempt them to try a new flavor. My kids LOVE black beans, so these Bug Nachos were their favorite of the day.
Quick & Easy Halloween Party Decor
Our Halloween playdate was not really a party – it was just a friend with her little one – but since the kids were dressing up in costume, I wanted to make our lunch to feel festive… but for not a lot of money.
Adding candy eyes for almost any food instantly makes it look spooky. Inexpensive plastic spiders topping the chip bowl gives you that creepy feeling. And a plastic table cover folded over to become a table-runner sets the stage for a Halloween buffet-style lunch.
Pizza Spiderweb and Mummy Hot Dogs
When it comes to party food, it doesn’t get easier than pizza and hot dogs! Since you’re likely busy with a million other pre-party things, pick up a few frozen pizzas to make these festive spiderwebs. Cook according to the instructions and, about halfway through the cooking time, take out and make 3-4 concentric circles on the pizza. Use either a sharp knife or a set of circle cookie cutters. After the pizza has completely cooked, cut your slices using a sharp knife, dragging a bit of the cheese along with it. Add a decorative spider to really make your statement!
To make the Mummy Hot Dogs, use Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and wrap them around your favorite hot dogs. After you’ve baked them according to package instructions, use ketchup to glue the large candy eyeballs on!
Halloween Party Cupcakes
Cupcakes are the perfect dessert for the kids’ Halloween party! They’re cute and fun to eat, especially these spider cupcakes. Use this adorable Halloween cupcake decorating kit by Wilton, which includes cupcake liners, candy eyes and spider legs. I used Pillsbury Funfetti Bold Purple frosting that worked perfectly for my spider cupcakes (and a few extras).
With a bit of planning, and one trip to my local Walmart, I was able to turn a regular playdate into a festive Halloween party for the kids…. and not be in the kitchen all day!
I hope these simple Halloween party food ideas will help you get creative in the kitchen this boo-tastic holiday season.
