Honoring Our Favorite Veteran #WallofHonor

In building our family legacy, there are a couple people Daddy D and I miss every single day. We wish the kids could know them. We wish we could lean on their love. And we wish, truly wish, the world got just a little bit more of their greatness. One of those people is my late father-in-law, our family’s favorite and most celebrated American Veteran.

Veteran’s Day is coming up, and like we do every year, we’ll be telling the kids a little bit more about their grandfather. As many family legacies go, we depend heavily on oral history that has been passed down to understand how Grandpa Bell came to be in the military. His mom died when he was very young, his father shortly after, and he, at the young age of 16, joined the military by fibbing about his date of birth (he said he was 18). To this day, the family honors his two birthdays as an American vet.

The Wall of Honor

Walmart is giving us a chance to honor our vets by creating a virtual Wall of Honor. Bringing people together in the largest virtual community of its kind where they can support and share about the Veterans in their live, anyone can post photos, videos or text to the Wall of Honor website. Nearly 3,000 vets has already been honored on the wall, and it’s humbling to look through the profiles. Use #WallOfHonor to remember your veteran this Monday, November 11.

D’s dad served in the Korean War. As a veteran of his generation, his funeral was filled symbolic measures to honor his roll as a servicemen to our country. After a huge gathering of people that attended his service (his dad was also a beloved pastor in Southern California – there were literally hundreds of people at his memorial), my fther-in-laws burial was a quite moment for just the family, honored by the United Stated Military. I wish he was still here – every day I wish he could see my kids – but we honor his legacy constantly. And will do so especially this Monday.
