I told ya’ll not to laugh at me, but I’ll still love ya if you do. I’m a nut about keeping my kids safe. They’re probably a tad bit (or alotta bit) over-protected. Second to excitement when we decided to celebrate Alina’s 4th birthday at Disneyland, there was fear. Fear of losing one of my kids, specifically. But instead of letting fear impact our adventure, I decided to just be prepared.
I made this Lost Kid Printable for both kids (but especially Sebastian) in case the dreaded event actually occurred, but preparing Alina to stay safe in large crowds started a couple weeks before we left on our first trip to Disneyland. I gave her three simple rules to follow while we were at Disneyland (or anywhere in large crowds)…
Keeping Kids Safe
1. Always stay with Mom and Dad.
2. If you feel lost, stay put where you are.
3. Look for someone with a badge and ask them to help.
As soon as we arrived to Disneyland, I introduced her to the first employee I could find and showed her their badge. I reminded her of the three rules of safety, and that my phone number was on her I’m Lost printable we had attached to her dress. Then we went on our day, in excitement and a mom’s precautionary eye. Both of the kids had a blast!
I asked a friend to draw me up this coloring page with Alina’s 3 simple rules to staying safe in large crowds, and am offering it to my readers as a free printable. Using coloring pages while discussing specific topics has become a very effictive tool in my purposed parenting – from Day of the Dead, to Thanksgiving and now rules of staying safe in large crowds, I love using art to instill a lesson. Alina is zoned in on her fingers and really concentrates on the page, thus the concept it’s explaining.
While we were at Disneyland, watching the Main Street Parade, Alina took a few pictures with my camera. Later on, as I’ve been editing images, it occurred me to important the topic of keeping kids safe really is. Looking at these images that Alina took, at her eye level, I realized how frightening it would be had she gotten lost – only being able to see a sea of legs…
Losing kids happens. Even to the most observant parent. Luckily, while at Disneyland, we did not. But I wanted to be sure Alina had the tools to keep herself safe and get herself to safety in case the event did occur.
Are you as crazy about keeping your kids safe as my mom and Daddy D seem to think I am?
