Those who know me well know that I am the worst at making time to take care of my looks. I wait till forever to get my eyebrows done, I hardly ever wear makeup, washing my face at night is a special occasion. A successful start of the day is brushing my teeth and throwing my hair into a ponytail. I love getting dolled up for night out with the girls, but every day vanity is just not my thing. Then there’s my hair, which I have let grow way too long. Why not let my lack of primping benefit a well known and respected charity – Locks of Love.
In the Curly Hair post, I discussed my experience with having curly hair. Having curly hair is very different than having straight hair, including who we allow to cut our hair. I’ve had the same woman cut my hair for years, YEARS, and would never think of going to anyone else. The only thing is: she is in Los Angeles and I’m in Vegas. And she doesn’t work on the weekends. Between my horrible vanity-procrastination and the logistical difficulties, I haven’t had my thick hair cut in over a year!

Oh man, I can’t believe I just admitted all of that. Anyway, I’ve been getting a lot of slack about my ridiculous lack of primping. Most especially from Daddy D, who is getting annoyed with the disgusting amounts of hair in our shower drains and the random places a strand will appear {like in Alina’s diaper!}. My hair is really long right now… it needs a huge amount of conditioner and time to comb through when I wash it. Conditioner costs money and time is always in demand. Something needs to be done.
Cutting it is not going to happen just yet, though. I’ve decided to let it grow a bit longer than donate a foot to Locks of Love, a nonprofit which provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged kids suffering from long term medical hair loss. What a wonderful reason to enable my procrastination! And a really great organization.

I have a few friends who have donated to Locks of Love in the past, and since my hair grows at a decent rate, donating has always been something I felt I should do. I’m not sure how much longer I will need to grow my hair out, but I will do it until I have enough to donate {minimum is 10 inches} and still have a decent length leftover to work with. I will keep you guys posted! Have any of you donated to Locks of Love in the past? It seems like a super easy process.
We had a wonderful Family Celebration Week. Alina is still talking about the swimming dolphins and sleeping lions. Check back this week for recap posts!
