At three years old, my toddler has super thick curly hair that is prone to dryness. She also has low porosity hair, which makes absorbing moisture a big deal to keeping hair moisturized and healthy. Moms with curly hair toddlers or young kids will understand why this makes choosing the best shower heads for kids super important!
Bathing a toddler with a ton of super curly hair can be a daily battle if we aren’t prepared with the right tools. And when that kid also hates water splashing on her head or around her face, bath time can become a nightmare for both of us. Ask me how I know!!! Motherhood can be exhausting and caring for highly textured curls while also teaching our kids to love their naturally curly hair is equally as complicated. So take this list of shower heads for kids as a hug from me to you – I see you, mama! You are doing a great job!

Best Shower Heads for Kids
Water is an amazing moisturizer, but when it takes time to squeeze it in, you get lots of drama. Try explaining low porosity to a toddler!!! My daughter is one of those little kids that just would not submerge her head in the bathwater. She hates water in her eyes too, so I had to find a new way of soaking her hair completely.
Some people wash curly hair in the kitchen or bathroom sink, but that’s never been something we did, so I looked I started looking for the best children shower heads on the market. The shower heads for kids below are highly rated and at great price points for drama-free bath time.

Shower Head for Kids
We personally used the My Own Shower – Children’s Shower Head and it was great for our needs. This showerhead has been a welcome addition to our curly hair routine. I cannot even begin to tell you how much easier bathtime is, actually. I love the low flow on the water pressure and the fact that the adapter is really easy to change out. We get lots of house guests, so that was an important feature for us. My toddler loves her “fishie”, which makes bath time all the more fun. But, most importantly, my child is happy and hair time is less of a struggle.

May 4, 2013 at 11:37 pmPrincess recently transitioned from bath to shower as well. We went all in. I didn’t think to buy an attachment. What a great idea!!! She’d love it!!
I also shampooed and conditioned her hair. I was amazed at how well she did. Still getting used to the water in her face though. But, at least it’s progress. Alina’s hair is coming in nicely.

First off, I love your blog! I have learned a lot from it in my quest to educate myself about biracial hair. I have two biracial kids (black/white) and am constantly learning more about how to care for their gorgeous hair.
Anyway, about water. My daughter is 3 right now and I have a routine that really works for us. We use a combination of bath and shower. She has a kids bath tub, big enough to fit her lying down with her legs bent at the knees (it’s a baby tub but without any molding inside, so it has a lot more room). So on hair washing day (which is once a week), I fill the kids tub with water and stick a bath pillow over the edge on one of the short sides. I use the kind of inflatable pillow that has two suction cups. I suction it to the outside of the tub and drape it over the edge so it cushions her head. Then I have her lie down in the tub and put her neck on the pillow, with her head gently sloping back out of the tub. I fold a washcloth lengthwise and drape it over her eyes. We pretend it’s a spa procedure! Our shower has a removable handheld head, so I use that to wash her hair with. She’s nice and comfy (and warm) in the tub, and there’s no water in her eyes because 1) her head is tilted back, and 2) the washcloth absorbs any stray trickles. I wet her hair like this, then I sit her up for the shampoo/conditioner/comb whatever. And back down in position for rinsing. This technique removed all the drama from hair washing and has been working out great for us! I highly recommend it!
