Happy almost New Year! I love the essence of New Year’s Eve as I do almost any other holiday, and this year, my best friends and I are organizing a festive kids’ party. I’m so excited! Complete with New Year’s Eve kids crafts (including this party hat craft!) and party idea, this holiday season is sure to go out with a bang!
I picked up all the items I needed for this NYE Party Hat Craft at Walmart.
Easy Crafts for Kids: DIY Party Hat Crafts!
To make this simple craft for kids during a NYE party, there are only a few things you need. You can even use whatever crafts you have at home to decorate festive crafts for kids. Here’s what you’ll need..
– Paper Party Hats: The pack linked comes with 8 hats for less than $2. Don’t worry about the colors or designs since we’ll be covering the hats up with paper to create a custom design.
– Construction Paper: A single sheet of white 8×11 paper might work fine for the size of your party hat, but you also might need to work with a roll of construction paper. For this size of party hat (which came included in a NYE Party Pack and is slightly larger than the standard party hats), I used a roll of white craft paper that came included in this sweet finger paint set.
– Party Hat Decorations: Set up a craft station with everything your kids will need to create their unique party hat! We used finger paints, hot glue, glitter, stickers and markers.
– Fringe or Tinsel: I found this cute holiday tinsel on 50% clearance for during Walmart’s Clearance event this weekend. I stocked up for next year, but also bought a few for this fun kids craft. You’ll be super gluing the tinsel around the base of the party hat and as a topper, but Walmart sells these pre-made Fringed Foil Party Hats, too. It’s certainly more cost effective (and fun!) to make your own fringe, but at least you have options.
How to Make NYE Party Hats for Kids Party
Keeping kids busy with a festive craft is our goal during our NYE kids party. I hope they’ll love making their unique party hats to celebrate the evening! Here’s all you need to do…
– Deconstruct one of the party hats to use as a template. Using the template, trace the outline onto construction paper and cut out the shape to cover the party hat.
– Lay out all the party hat shapes, along with all your decorate crafting supplies, in front of the kid-sized party goes and let them at it! Use this opportunity to teach them about what year it is, or to discuss the major events that occurred the year before. Talk about goal setting on how to create SMART goals for kids to achieve goals.
– Once you’ve let the paper dry from all the painting and decorating, hot glue the shape onto the party hat like a cover. It should fit perfectly! Tuck any excess paper into the hat, out of sight.
– Measure how much tinsel is needed for the base of the hat, plus a little extra for a topper, and hot glue it on.
Didn’t it turn out so cute! My little girl started by painting her paper a light pink. Once that was dry, she wrote a big A on one side and, after discussing what year we were entering, we practiced writing 2015 on the other side. I used the hot glue gun to outline her writing while she sprinkled purple glitter all over the hat. She then added purple polka dots using a q-tip. It was so much fun!
Our Kids’ NYE party will also have a photo booth where they can show off their party hat creations! This adorable Photo Booth Props kit from Walmart makes it easy to throw together an extra layer of fun to any party. It’s the same one I used on my son’s Very Hungry Caterpillar Party when he turned a year old and is my go-to photo booth kit.
Let me know if you give this simple kids craft a try!
