Mt Charleston Snow Day: Finding Snow in Las Vegas

vegas blog, vegas family,

Over the weekend we decided to take an adventure: a Mt Charleston snow day! up the snow capped mountains for good ol’ fashioned wintertime fun. Did you know a Vegas snow day is only 30 minutes away from the city? Mt Charleston is a beautiful retreat from city life, and these sweet photos make for a perfect Vegas blog post.

After a few hours of sledding and bonding with friends, we came home to a crockpot full of homemade chili to warm our bellies. It was a great day! And other than the cost of gas, it was an affordable adventure that the kids will not soon forget…

Mt Charleston Snow Day!

This was Alina’s first snow adventure, and she loved it. Not just liked it…. she loved it. Daddy D was slightly {or ridiculously} overprotective of his sweet girl and hardly let go of her hand. {As a side note: D says I will be as overprotective with my little boy as he is with his little girl. Is that true?} My best friend’s husband somehow convinced him to put Alina on a sled with his younger two kids, vowing to not do any steep slopes and not too fast.

You can’t fake that kind of smile! I cannot say how much squealing and yelling this kid of mine did while sledding! I completely did not expect her to love it as much as she did, given her tempered personality. But, once that sled started to pick up speed, the wind blowing in her face, she just couldn’t control herself! She literally screamed so loud that we all had to bust out in laughter! And Daddy D? He ran ALONG side the sled, using his walking stick as the controller/brake. That man!

Finding Snow in Vegas

In Daddy D’s defense, it was very icy out there. People were slipping and falling all over the place….including this chick {a.k.a. Auntie} who fell on her booootie twice and gave me the biggest chuckle I’ve had in a long time… good thing you’ve got all that padding, huh Auntie?!

The following day we had a family dinner in our new home to celebrate Alina’s second birthday. Do you see her showing you two with her fingers? Except its not to say she’s two. Ya, she says “peace out”. Funny girl.

PS- I’m 28 weeks pregnant today and fully aware at how little attention I’ve paid the pregnancy thus far. {I am sorry my little boy; Mommy adores you!} Update post to come in a couple weeks {I’m thinking at 30 weeks}. BUT! We have named him and will be working on completing his nursery in the next few weeks as well….that’s a start, right?
