Over the weekend we hosted some of our friends and family at our home to celebrate Sebastian’s first birthday with a Very Hungry Caterpillar party. I am not a party thrower professional, and tend to get stressed out, but my sister and step mom helped me out and I think we came up with a cute party for a favorite little boy. And, it was so much fun! Totally not the stress I’m used to when it comes to party throwing. Many many thanks to those who showed up to give my boy sweet love on his first birthday party! You guys truly made the day special!
We ordered a bounce house for the kids (and Tio) and thank goodness we did – my house was saved a pretty decent thrashing because the kids were all outside enjoying the beautiful weather. I loved watching them bounce around the party with their caterpillar antennas (aka party hats), enjoying themselves. The entry table had several pretty jars were filled with festive fruits and a few cute pictures of birthday boy (I’ll post pictures from that photo shoot soon).
I kept it simple with the food by ordering sandwiches from our favorite sub shop. I made a few salads and put out some fruit to round out our lunch. The pesto pasta salad was a hit, and the kids got a kick out of the caterpillar grape skewers. I’m pretty sure nobody noticed, but I punched holes through all the pieces of watermelon… you know, because the caterpillar ate through them 🙂
We set up a photo booth type area that turned out to give me some really sweet images. Here is my brother and sister-in-law, who traveled from California to be with their nephew. I just love these two! And so do Alina and Sebastian.
We love our boy, as do so many people in our lives. It was truly a memorable Very Hungry Caterpillar party! Sebastian, I hope you love looking back at these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. You really had a great day, and I am surprised at how well you hung in there with the big kids. You are such a cool boy, and I’m thrilled to be watching you grow!

April 11, 2013 at 9:06 pmHi Il, it was really simple – orzo, pesto (your favorite brand or homemade), grape tomatoes (sliced in half) and plenty of feta cheese. Maybe I’ll do a post on it, in case there are others who are interested. Thanks so much for stopping by!

January 24, 2014 at 8:31 pmHi LaDonna, The rocking toy was given to Alina years ago… I think it’s Mamas and Papas, but I’m not entirely sure. Sorry about that :/ BUT! I made the caterpillar antennas… and so can you! They’re so easy to make! Black pipe-cleaner attached to a black headband, topped with a black puff ball (use hot glue). Hope this helps! And I wish your sweet Lennox a very happy birthday!

March 16, 2014 at 3:55 pmHello, I LOVE this party! I came along this searching for ideas for the party I am planning for my soon to be 2 year old. I am curious where you got the polka dot image so that you could just add it on to things like the birthday banner you made? I have been searching everywhere. Any chance you could send me a file of it if you have one?
Thanks

Vanessa
June 29, 2014 at 4:08 pmThanks so much, Janna! I got the backdrop as part of a kit (with mustaches, glasses, etc) at either Hobby Lobby or Walmart. Can’t remember exactly, but I hope that helps!
